Grab Crane
Grab cranes are a type of crane which is fitted with a grab or clamshell bucket for lifting bulk cargo such as coal, ore, sand, gravel and other analogous products. This is an attachment that is used in picking up and lifting materials to load and unload materials to and from the machines. It is largely found in ports, shipyards, constructions, building and concrete structures, and other industries that deal with the movement of large quantities of stock.
It has a boom as the main lifting arm of the crane, and a trolley that transports the boom to position the grab bucket. The grab bucket hangs on the trolley through cables or chains depending on the make of the particular trolley and the strength of the cables or chains in control of the opening and closing of the grab bucket. The crane comes with fixed or mobile support to accommodate the mode of operation suited for the tasks to be accomplished.
The greatest strength of a grab crane is that it is versatile in handling all sorts of materials in a very short time. The grab bucket may also be designed according to the specifics of the job, and the nature and size of the material to be moved. This makes the grab crane a very useful piece of equipment in many operations such as in shipping where it is used in loading and unloading ships, to the construction sites where it is used to move around materials.
It also has a high degree of accuracy and dexterity in the handling of material onto the device. The positioning of the grab bucket is also easy in this aspect to make certain of loading and unloading operations.
